I think this may be good TV. I will tell you more when I can make out the faces.
So I'm 1/4 of the way into the first episode of Charlie Jade, and so far my only commentary is, "Clearly the lighting director peered at seasons 3 and 4 of Angel from behind his couch, all the while shrieking, 'THE LIGHT! THE LIGHT! SINGLE BIRTHDAY CANDLE TOO BRIGHT! IT BURNS US!' "

Oh dear. At least the resolution, I hope, is good? You're bringing back memories of Danger Man tapes where McGoohan may have got away from the bad guys by punching them out, pulling a race car out of his pants, or possibly sprouting wings and flying away, for all I could tell from the fuzzy black blobs on the screen.

Ha, yes; the resolution on many of my 1st and 2nd Doctor episodes of Doctor Who is about the same, due to how bad our TV reception was at the time. Hell, I recently caught the DVD of a Tom Baker episode, even, and went, "Oh, so THAT'S the giant rat that was chasing Leela! ...It was scarier when I couldn't see it."

The resolution on the Charlie Jade ep is fine; as far as I can tell the lighting is intentional - it's set at night in a kind of Blade Runner-esque city, with green tinting.

That... is very probably true.

Attempting to get screencaps of anything of Charlie Jade must be a fun experience, I'm guessing.

Wow, I've never even heard of that show (sounds potentially interesting, though!) but the thought that anything could be darker than S3 & 4 of Angel is alternately amusing and scary, LOL!!! *Squish*

LOL, sounds like what they really wanted was to make a radio program. Visuals are for wimps!

I think it's an intentional artistic thing (because there's 3 different parallel worlds in the show, and each is lit differently, for mood, with the semi-utopian one having the really good, crisp lighting) that combines badly with any recording that's not pure dvd quality.

*laughs* It is *so* true! Maybe after the pilot, they made them add some lighting? I didn't make it thru the pilot before cuz I couldn't see what the hell was going on half the time, but I'm sure I'll return to it again sometime.

It sounds interesting so I looked up the torrents. The only I could find (apart from French ones) were roughly 100 mb avi files. The quality can't be very good there - esp. on a dark show like you're describing. Are you watching those or did you get the eps. somewhere else?

Nope, these are 300mb files, pretty good quality. I got them on data dvd from a friend, though, and am not sure where she torrented them.
