Buffy thought -- re The Killer In Me

Am I nuts in thinking the title (and indeed plot points) in this ep refer to or at least echo lines from the Dingoes/4-Star Mary song Pain? (Loaded up my gun/ there's a killer in me...)

I was rather hoping (from knowing the title and some of the subject matter in advance) that the Continuity Fairy might bless us with a reference to Oz in the Willow/Kennedy conversation in the Bronze. They did talk about romantic history after all, and it wouldn't have been out of plotline for Willow to say "I had a boyfriend before Tara, and I cared for him, but she opened my eyes to something much bigger, yadda yadda." And/or the song itself playing in the Bronze, with no more scripty acknowledgement than a smile or a wry look from Willow.

Not really complaining that it wasn't there -- I have far too many legitimate gripes with this ep to be so ridiculous as that. Just saying, would've been cool, and it seems like they missed out on something. Or thought of doing it and decided not to, mayhap.

Yeah - my problem is, it *still* hasn't been established that "Hey, in love with Tara now" doesn't mean "Hey, gay now!" -- Willow/Kennedy only muddies that water even more. Willow's been saying "But I don't like boys now" shit since S5, with the biggest instance being in "Him" with the "I'll have to turn him into a girl" and "I can work around it" (jock-boy's unhelpful penis). Saying that it was a woman, vs. women, that made her realize, gives a nod to the "It was more about love for Tara than sole atrraction to females" logic, but it doesn't counter all the 'gay now' stuff. Not when it's surrounded by an ep full of assumptions, including Willow setting off Kennedy's gaydar, and the great one of "Hey, they're both gay! They *must* be attracted to each other!"

Um. Shutting up now.

When April first showed up looking for Warren and Willow and Xander shared a joint-oogling moment I didn't take it that she was 'gay, now' but more that she was becoming more comfortable with herself and more relaxed with Xander (as a representation of family/friends) she was coming out of her shell {not coming out in the gay sense) blossoming from 'book-study girl' into a confident woman - it was sweet.

But this season... the writers have put so many cutting remarks (that aside to Xander about how she was over him when he mention the love poems) and the points you mentioned in the jacket episode ... I don't know I would respond better to a character who was deeply emotionally wounded and didn't feel ready to start any new relationships after losing her... more than girlfriend, they had them most committed/stable relationship on the show to date - they were the adults, than I do to this revamping of Willow into the 'token' lesbian. I get the feeling that 3 yrs ago when Tara and Willow got involved the writers didn't seem so conscious labels and now they're working really hard to be PC. Or they are thinking spin off or moving Willow to Angel when Buffy folds.
