Eliza pretty.

Closing voiceover bad.

Eliza pretty. She bounces when she runs!

Oh man. That good, huh?

It wasn't bad, except for that really awful closing monologue. Which gets half a break because it's Tru talking in her head, but shuhdder. Bad, bad unnatural wording.

Other than that it was just. There. Not bad, but not Joss, you know? Very Very Earnest.

I have Issues with any show that gets its title from a character's name, particularly if it's rather Mary Sue-ish in its uniqueness. 'Tru Calling' is a worse offended than 'The Lyons' Den,' but it DOES have pretty Eliza.

Thanks. :) My idea, but NOT my execution--that's saraslash's doing.

I know what you mean -- they're trying to get points for being clever in working their character's name into a pun for the title, but when it's a bizarre, made-up name like this, it makes it painfully obvious that they picked the name to go in the title, not vice versa, which.. not so clever.

I'm not sure the show had enough running.

But Eliza VERY pretty. Pretty, pretty Eliza.

Also timeslot? Mind boggles at Fox's choices.

Yeah -- somehow I suspect they're not jumping up and down and rooting for this one to succeed.

She's very yummy, but I guess that doesn't overcome a too-earnest script.

I'm hoping the writing gets better (and that it doesn't tank after two episodes). I'm also wonder in my own case how much of my "Eh. Bleh." about the writing isn't just that it's not Jossian writing -- not Buffyspeak, not quip-a-minute.

The quip-a-minute balancing act is probably so hard to get right -- the nice balance of pathos, humor, and plot all tied up neatly in a sexy package. I'd be surprised if anyone did it as well as the Buffyverse writers.

It is sad, but we probably have to hold other writers to a lower standard. :-(

Mr. Sarabi says that your summary did more to make him want to watch it than article we read in the paper.

I think because of the use of the words pretty and bouncing.

Or possibly just bouncing.

There was much bouncing. She wears very low-cut blouses and runs. A lot.

The sad thing is, she's a good actress. Bad (or at least, mediocre) script.

I think there's something wrong with naming your main character something just so the title can be a clever pun.

The way I heard it it wasn't the original title. It was something halfway intelligent, IIRC, so of course, they had to change it.

"Tru Calling". I don't think anyone saw that and went "oh, the main character's name must be Tru." We were all thinking why is the e not good enough for you?!

Yep, these were pretty much my thoughts. Although it was better than I thought it would be. And Eliza: looked fucking Hot! As we were watching I commented aloud, "Voiceovers: always a bad idea." Yep. Though I'll likely keep watching it. It's Eliza. And she looks good. Also pretty boys.

Yeah, Tru's brother is a hottie -- hopefully they'll give the character more than the one-note 'good-natured wastrel' treatment he gets in the premiere.

I watched the original pilot a while ago. Did they fix any of the lame stuff? Sounds like most of it is still there - after they promised rewriting and recasting and stuff...

Shame. Still - it has a certain "Baywatch" thing going on ("Run Yasmine - run like the wind")

I haven't seen the original pilot (or the script) so I don't know what people thought was lame in it, but this one wasn't really horrible or lagging. It relied a lot on coincidence but as that's sort of the premise, I can accept it. The cheesiest part was definitely the voiceover speech at the end -- not just the *fact* of the voiceover, but that it was done in overly formal/poetic language that Tru wouldn't use in real conversation. *No one* would use it in real conversation.
