VividCon Musing
Vidvidvidvid...

Wants I to go to vividcon much this year, yes. And Chicago is within easy driving distance. In fact, if I wanted to skip staying at the hotel (which I don't), I could crash on the sofas of multiple relatives in the area. Not, obviously, at the same time.

But I don't have the cash-on-hand to register now for a convention that doesn't happen until August. Not when I'm trying to save for airfare to connexions, which is not within driving distance, and which is about 250$ just for travel. In April.

(Also, haven't bought maeyan's Christmas present yet. :( )

Wouldn't worry me at all given that I've got til August 1 to register, theoretically -- except for the fact that VividCon has a 100-member cap. Which makes me nervous that it will fill up before I have the chance to spend guilt-free money on the registration.

Anybody who's been before, got any idea on how fast the membership list actually fills up? And who's going or thinking of going, anyway?

ETA:: Whee! Registered!

oooooooooo

You know....the kids will be due back from their father's right around then. He lives in Chicago. Maybe I could, you know, pick them up myself and perhaps catch dinner with some of the LJ group going to this convention?

LOL

Course I'm going to the Writers Conv. in Las Vegas at the end of July for the same reason.

This is the year I meet people damn it.

You should go. Just saying.

*obsessive-compulsively watches the demon-lady on your icon disrobe, over and over again...*

Uh, there was a question, wasn't there?

Oh - LJ people going. That's part of why I'm trying to get a feel for who's going, too. That way anybody in the general Chicagoland area who isn't necessarily going to the con but reads my LJ can see if there's a chance to meet up with people.

(Not doing WriterCon, at least not this year -- don't think I can afford more than one non-local con.)

I'm going. Not that this is a particularly compelling reason for you to go, but hey. I'll be driving there, too. I waited until the last minute last year to decide, and I'm very glad I went.

I think that you're allowed to register now and pay later, if that changes the landscape any.

Awesome -- I saw that elke_tanzer had mentioned that as an option, but I didn't see it anywhere on the website or registration form, so wasn't sure what the details were on it. Checked tzikeh's lj and saw her post, and now I get it. Which totally works for me -- off to register.

And of course "Shrift will be there" is a compelling reason. Especially after you missed Connexions last year!

Yes, that was a bummer, and I'm not sure I'll be going this year, either. I want to hit Escapade, Vividcon, and DragonCon, and that might be it for me. Stupid work.

Sadly, as all this did was make me realize that connexions was in Baltimore.

Baltimore, our friendly neighbor a 45 minuite drive to the north. I may have to go.

You can register now and pay later when you have the cash. Just select "Pay by check" on the registration form, and then don't send the check right away. tzikeh said it was okay.

I'm going for the first time ever! eep! Don't know how fast the slots usually get filled, though, sorry.

Thanks! I checked tzikeh's LJ, and got the details, and thats ounds like a perfect plan for me, as I definitely *can* afford to pay for it, just not this instant, and I am Little Miss Paranoid.

I love your icon! Would there be a time-share on platonic boyfriending with Ted? I would love to be on *that* list.

Thanks! (The icon's shareable, if you want it.)

I am much too possessive to allow time-sharing - he's mine, I tell you, MINE! - but there is always the boyfriend-swapping option. You can claim Jai as your gay platonic boyfriend, and we can trade off every now and then, and everyone's happy. Also? Double the pretty. Mmm, Ted. Mmm, Jai.

I won't be going to the con, but I do live in Chicago, and would love to meet up with people (although I'm really 80% a lurker, so I'm kind of out of the people loop).

I probably don't know 3/4 of the people going to Vividcon, myself -- Buffy folks, I'm familiar with, slash folks I at least tend to recognise by name. Vidding folks are a whole new ballgame for me!
