Not quite gratuitous, but icon post
Vote Bloody/Harris in 2004!
(Not on the ballot yet, but will be soon.)
They promise, if elected, to have sex
In public, on all postal holidays,
And every other day they can arrange.
They'll also outlaw pairing names for good,
So Spander, Wunn, and Wangel die a death
And slash regains the / that makes it slash.
(Er, so does het, of course. The Bander dies,
And Buffy/Xander takes the stage again.)

W00T! So very on board for THAT! Death to stupid blended names (smacks anime fandom for starting that crap).

Seriously. I give my roomie (who's an anime fan) baleful glares over that one on a regular basis, just on principle.

The only smooshed name I can stand is Spuffy, and that's because it's had such wide use outside of fanfic discussions, that hearing it doesn't bother me. (Except in the way that I actually hate the pairing, but that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.)

*Looks up at your comment*

But those were my words... They really were... they were in my mouth and everything...

"Spuffy" was almost an insult when I first heard it. Then the fans of the pairing grabbed it held on. I hate it. I hate "Spander" even more, and there is no word to describe my contempt for "Spangel" (the word, not the pairing) cos it reminds me of thse little square boiled sweets I used to be able to buy for 10p. The orange ones were horrible.

Oh? **is sheepish** Okay...
but but but... lexicalization, and incorporation of widely-used terms into general speech, and the economy principle, and terminological studies...
**pouts but accepts words from the wise**
**makes notes on terminological trends and anti-trends in the genre for own paper**

I'm not saying it's not efficient! Just annoying as all hell. S/X is a lot more efficient than Spander in terms of keystrokes, also. Plus, Spander isn't punnable in place of the word sex. *g*

Oh sure, Bloody/Harris. Use the smooshed names as a way to deflect from the real issue at hand. You know what I'm talking about. Tubes of lube in every room in the house? In every drawer? Overflowing in the bureaus, and bought in bulk at the local Randy'o'Rama? Can this really be possible? And where the hell do you both put your socks?

That's right. Lubegate. 2002.

We want an explanation, and we want it now.

Socks? We know nothing about socks.

And our campaign is not funded by the makers of SnygelTM. That's a vicious, unsubstantiated rumor.
