As apparently the only person on my friendslist not being annoyed by the proximity of local fireworks1, I say unto you, Happy Other People Setting Off Explosive Things At A Reasonable Distance From Me That Give Me Vague Happy Childhood Flashbacks Without Requiring Any Actual Effort Or Risk To My Own Person Day.

I'm also amused that I can hear the fireworks, but look out the office (back-facing) window to see only... lightning-bugs.

1Not suggesting that the annoyance is unreasonable; just saying that happily, my neighbors seem to be setting things off far enough away that the sound level is not annoying, just vaguely comforting.

I am. Which is odd, because I'd expect the neighbors to be much more obnoxious, given that I live in a tiny, claustrophobic inner-city neighborhood where... well, for example, one of the lawncare places we called just outright said "We won't work in that neighborhood" and another said "We usually consider that area a 2-person job: one to mow the lawn, and one to stay and guard the truck. And we only have one guy free today, sorry." So I'm surprised and delighted that the noise isn't annoying.

(Then again, maeyan did tell me that apparently one set of kids is/was out throwing firecrackers onto other people's lawns. Haven't heard anything that close myself, but then, I'm upstairs and at the back of the house.)

Apparently the little town I moved into, Blue Springs, is TOTALLY into the holiday. Then add in the first real perfect weather we had this year and you get noise. LOTS AND LOTS. My cat only comes out from under the bed to eat.

Two days in a row I've been woken up at 6 a.m. by them.

Who the HELL shoots these suckers off at 6 a.m????

Please god, let it be DONE.

LOL

...my neighbors, apparently. *glares at them* Only they did it at 5 am.
