As apparently the only person on my friendslist not being annoyed by the proximity of local fireworks1, I say unto you, Happy Other People Setting Off Explosive Things At A Reasonable Distance From Me That Give Me Vague Happy Childhood Flashbacks Without Requiring Any Actual Effort Or Risk To My Own Person Day.

I'm also amused that I can hear the fireworks, but look out the office (back-facing) window to see only... lightning-bugs.

1Not suggesting that the annoyance is unreasonable; just saying that happily, my neighbors seem to be setting things off far enough away that the sound level is not annoying, just vaguely comforting.

My family were of the sort who (during various years, not always) would have one uncle drive down to Kentucky or Tennessee, wherever you could buy the expensive, dangerous, completely illegal in Indiana sort of 100-shot almost-exhibition, blow your hand off if you're not careful, type of fireworks. They'd get smuggled back and then set off at somebody's farm or other, whoever was far enough out in the boonies that we weren't likely to get in trouble for it. Or on the non-exciting years, it'd be sparklers and wimpy fountains in the middle of the street in the suburbs.

*sigh* Or my uncles trying to make homeade bottle rockets out of M-70s and 2-liter bottles or gallon jugs. Just remembered *that* year.
