You know what makes all things better? McDonalds fries1. It's the crack content2. Mmmm.

1 When they're warm. Cold McDonalds fries are nasssssty. Actually the only fries that aren't nasty when cold are Steak & Shake, and then only with ketchup on them.

2 This is sarabi's theory, which I fully endorse. There must be some sort of highly addictive substance in them. They're greasy, oversalted, cooked under questionable conditions -- don't tell me you worked fast food and never threw pickles in the fry vat -- and just generally disgusting in concept, yet.... we keep going back for more.

Wow. The whole three weeks I worked at McDick's, and I NEVER thought to put pickles in the vat.

Dammit. Now I feel like I missed out on an important life opportunity.

I feel cheated.

Well, if you threw me in a fry vat, yes, I would.

Please don't do that. It hurts.

It's the sugar.

So in other words, as I was saying, it's the crack!

In and Out fries taste good cold since they are are real potatoes vs. the processed potato 'stuff' that true french fries are made of. ;)

I like Del Taco fries the best - they're all crinkly.

:( We have neither in Indiana, sadly.

I've never really liked cold steak-fries, though, the kind from sit-down restaurants that still have the potato-skin on them. So I'm not sure if it's the real-potato factor, for me.

I never threw pickles in the fry vat, no.

Not pickles.

Well, yes, pickles were the nicest thing that got thrown in the vats. There was also the guy at Long John Silver's who deep-fried a dog-biscuit...

McDonald's fries suck! Yuk!
Burger King fries are better.
Normal restaurant fries are better.
Dutch fries from real potatoes are awesome. (especially with mayonaise or with peanut sauce)
"Chips" from English Chinese take aways made from real potatoes are best (it's probably in the oil they use) - lovely with sweet and sour sauce.

Eek! No, I can't even stand BK fries when they're hot. Too thick and bland-tasting for me. This may be like the eternal Coke/Pepsi war -- one sort of fast food fries or the other.

Fries with mayo don't appeal, and peanut sauce in general doesn't appeal, but I do like fries dipped in gravy, or ranch salad dressing.

Well, McDonalds puts that beef fat on the fries, so possibly you're going "mm, meat."

It's hard to get good fries anywhere around where I live, though. For some reason I'm *always* getting limp, soggy fries. Bleah. So I just oven-roast potatoes instead.

Hmm. Could be, but I'm not a big mmm, meat person. I don't do it over their actual beef, for instance -- mostly I can only stand hamburgers when the ratio of condiment to meat flavor is slightly skewed in favor of the condiments.
