So did you know tomorrow is Veterans' Day in the US and we don't have to go to school work?

Me too!

I totally knew that before 4:00 this afternoon.

It did not take someone saying "Have a nice holiday" as she left, for me to go "WTF?" and look at the calendar. At all.

Nope. My employer does not consider it a holiday. Wankers.

Mine is a government agency, so they'd have to twist themselves up quite a bit to manage not giving us veterans' day off. Though they have come up with someinteresting logic for how we celebrate Presidents Day -- instead of getting that day off, we get Washington and Lincoln's birthdays off. Makes sense, except for the part where they totally fudge the dates and celebrate one on the day after Thanksgiving, and one on either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, depending on how close to the weekend Christmas falls.

Wow, that is quite twisty.

I don't complain too loudly, because they often (not always) give us the entire week(s) off between Christmas and New Year's here.

I can't believe my dad's oldest brothers Bob and Walt who fought in WWII in the Iwo Jima / Phillipines 'theatres' are still alive. They have to be in their 90's (my dad is in his late 70's -- they are three children out of twelve my grandma and grandpa had).
