State of the Me
I am not in NYC, and I did not get to see Vincent Kartheiser in the altogether. His altogether, that is, not mine. I suppose I could take off all my clothes and watch Home, but it just wouldn't be the same. Swmbo and Fod wouldn't be there, for one.

So did you know when things make knocky noises under your car hood but you don't smell antifreeze, there's a good chance you've blown your alternator, and upon the next starting of the car it will completely lock up, snapping a belt assembly (which you will mistake for a fanbelt until you attempt to steer it and realize the power steering is a distant memory), smelling bad, and stranding you atop the parking garage, on the fifth floor?

Did you know that tow trucks can't get up to the 5th floor of the parking garage?

Did you know that when your alternator goes out, you can still run the car until the battery drains, it just won't re-charge because like {twirls hair} that's what the alternator does OMG? I did, actually. From experience. I would feel vaguely smart if I had in fact realized the alternator was out while I was driving my car down four flights with no power steering, instead of just doing so on faith that hey, car runs, let's get it to the street while we can.

So 260$ later, we have a rebuilt alternator, a new belt assembly, and the fuse that kingbeeo blew over a year ago while trying to pump up our tire with an air-compressor, is finally fixed. So we have a radio. And a horn. And a little bing bing bing sound when you leave the headlights on. Huh. Nifty. *cuts wires to horn so maeyan can't use it in lieu of Death Ray on fellow drivers*

maeyan go to viveydoll's to babysit chilluns overnight and get fitted for her costume for ACEN. I stay home w/cats, and no nekkid people. OTOH, I download Doctor Who! OTTH1, dialup, so it'll be complete...uh.... Wednesday?

Mmmm, bed.

What does it say about me that I didn't need your footnote re: OTTH?

That you're well on the way to complete geekdom, at which point you will get things like 'tl;dr' from context, and you can come sit in the losers' corner next to me.

Steady on... don't you know that when we girlies talk about cars, there's a danger our brains will overheat and blow a gasket?

Gasket -- that's one of those floogelydinger things, innit? *plays with hair, looks in handbag for checkbook*

Dunno - my brain's already gone critical.

So sorry about your car! *kicks it*

I would pay *so* much money for a videotape of Swmbo and Fod squeeing at VK in his altogether.

Well we do sort of have an audio replay of Fod squeeing in her phone post. Granted only dogs can hear it...

Yep. I seem to have bad luck with cars and alternators; it's got to the point that it's the one mechanical problem I can diagnose myself. Although >knock on wood< it hasn't been a problem with the car I have now. Yet.

I can tell the alternator's out once the power actually runs down, but not usually beforehand. Radiator, however? Oh yeah. I'm alllll over knowing when there's a coolant leak.

Oooo...Car hugs. But at least it was only 260? I know that sucks, but by the time I got to the tow trucks and hair twirling I was estimating 700. (Of course, my car repairs were always more than just fixing the thing that was smoking - as one Smoking Thing impacted another Really Rusty Thing that needed to be replaced as well. But I still maintain that the under 1,000 car is the way to go when you're on a budget that would otherwise afford you a very nice bike.)

Sorry you had such a crappy time. But, yay! Fixed!

Yeah - and since J and I split it, it was really only 130, for me. Bad timing, since she was about to rent a car to go see her sis, and I'd already paid the full mortgage, and was waiting on her half of it, which she won't have until Wednesday due to aforementioned car rental, but luckily I have money left over in savings due to the lack of booze and whores at Connexions, so it's all good.

But now I have a radio! And interior lights! And a bingbing noise so we don't leave the headlights on and run the battery down and have to get the parking garage guy to jump it as we did at least three times a year while the bingbing noise was broken!
