Disaster Relief Coolness

A donation option that's fairly convenient and possibly useful even for people who wanted to help but didn't think they had much to spare: minim_calibre just pointed out that Coinstar -- those coin-redeeming machines in a lot of people's local supermarkets in the U.S. -- have an option to donate directly to the Red Cross (among several other choices), instead of turning the little printout in to the store for cash. The Coinstar website has details on the charities as well as a search to see where there are machines in your zip code.

That metric buttload of pennies in my desk drawer is obviously not money I was going to get around to using myself anytime soon, and I'm heading to the grocery store anyway.

ETA: TBQ points out in the comments that Coinstar waives their fee (where they take a percentage of X cents on the dollar if you're trading the coins for cash) when you're donating the money; everything you put in goes to the charity.
