George Takei comes out. Whoa. Cool.

Linkishness stolen from minotaurs.

I didn't either - it's great.

*nodnod* - I heard about that either this morning or possibly yesterday-by-rumor!

2005-10-27 11:19 pm (UTC) (Link)

Yay! That's so great.

Yiss! Though saddening that it took until he's 60-something for him to be able / feel comfortable with doing it.

lalalala I can read

2005-10-27 11:23 pm (UTC) (Link)

I had the feeling he was, especially after the time he was on the Howard Stern Show and said his dog's name was Reigne Blanche. :)

I'm glad he went public. *hugs Sulu*

Hee! And by their dogs shall ye know them...

*is scarred for life*

No frikkin clue. None.

Leads me to ask, Is everyfrikkinbody gay?

And before y'all flame me, that is not a criticism. I'm just astounded.

Good for him for finally owning up to that part of who he is.

Not an old-skool Trek slasher? *g*

Not that I immediately think of slashing Sulu when the OTP for all of that fandom is Kirk/Spock, but mmm, half-nekkid Sulu with a sword is definitely a pretty mental image.

2005-10-28 04:21 pm (UTC) (Link)

Yes, plus that particular half-naked sword scene has always seemed archly campy to me, like George was delighting in the chance to act a little stereotypical on screen.

George Takei comes out

And finds many of us on the other side of the door who knew he was in there all along.

2005-10-28 01:53 pm (UTC) (Link)

*g* I didn't, though it doesn't necessarily surprise me. Then again I couldn't tell you much of anything about the private lives of *any* of the original Trek actors besides Shatner and Nimoy, just because they've been the loudest and most visible in their post-Trek projects.

Sulu is a quiet favorite of mine. One of the best Trek novels I've read - and now of course I can't think of the title - involved a romance between Sulu and an original female character, if I remember rightly. Mostly because it went into Sulu as a character, in a way that the show never did.

2005-10-28 04:12 am (UTC) (Link)

Actually, this surprises me because I thought he came out years ago. Everybody that I know, "Knows" that he's gay.

2005-10-28 12:49 pm (UTC) (Link)

Yeah, I totally thought that he had come out already. *grins* I guess this means that I have been spreading misinformation for years that just happened to be true.

2005-10-28 01:58 pm (UTC) (Link)

Wonder what the common thread of people who knew/suspected was? I picked it up from Minotaur, who didn't know either, which to me set the bar for 'oh, Takei kept things really quiet, then' but then any number of people have popped up in comments to say they thought everyone was aware of that.

2005-10-28 08:54 pm (UTC) (Link)

Yaay for George. And, since everybody (or seems like it) is quoting STIV, how about how cool he looked in that leather capelet?

And, does that mean we get to reintepret his line, "Don't call me tiny?"

Hee-hee-hee-hee ::thunk::

Oops, I fell off my chair.

Giddy, gay hugs,

2005-10-31 03:33 pm (UTC) (Link)

Mmm, yes. I loved... actually I loved all the costumes from STIV. Except Spock's terrycloth headband, which was funny, but dorky.
