Uhhhh - (Buffy Season 8 Thought)
Updating my "Where my RP Xander's world took a left turn from canon" post led me to go, "Wait, what?" I'm not sure the thought hadn't niggled at me before, but apparently I let it slide until I actually had reason to poke myself (not dirty) about cause and effect.

Those of y'all who are current with BtVS Season 8 comics (actually, just up to the end of the first arc), riddle me this.

How the hell did the First Evil appear as Warren to Andrew in Season 7, if, according to Amy in the S8 comics, he didn't die when Willow flayed him?

It may have been discussed in fandom already; I haven't really been hunting down meta on the comics. Or there may have been a reference that explains it in the text itself that I missed.

Buffy had died onscreen, though. Twice. I wouldn't even mind the Warren thing as much if mention of him having been clinically dead at some point had been put into the text of the comic -- it's kind of rehashing an old theme, but at least the split in the Slayer line because of Buffy's CPR gives it credibility. But Warren was presented in the comics as 'haha he didn't die at all, because this character was hidden offscreen and saved him!' and the First Evil issue was only addressed when someone called them on it.

i dunno ... it didn't bother me as a plot device. warren is pretty universally lame no matter what, and think this was just joss' cute little attempt to make him less lame.

i for one am loving the buffy comic. the brian k. vaughn arc was damn near the most genius piece of writing in the buffyverse, evah. now i need to track down the new angel comics, too ... i live in nyc for gawd's sake and i have only ever seen one copy of issue 2 in person, and i resisted the urge to buy since i was missing issue 1 ...

I... have seeeeerious issues with the Angel comics. Which isn't stopping me from buying them mostly so I can WTF at them. Plot choices: kind of cool. Characterization: kasjdhklsjdhlkasjdhlkasjdhlskajdhaskjdhsalkjdhaslkjdhsalkdjhaslkdh.

i've just been re-watching season 4 AtS the past few days cause i've been feeling crappy as all hell, and i've watched the complete buffiness far too many times in the past 6 months, and rewatching s.4 of angel, i'm like, wow, those effing cliffhangers are good (and probably the only reason i'm plowing through the season as fast as i am), but whoa, who the hell am i watching? all the stuff with cordy as big bad and everything since the 9th ep of the first season or whatever was all preplanned by the totally anticlimactic beastmaster jasmine. ugh. anyway ...

based on the couple panels i glanced at in ish. 2 of the angel books i sort of got the same feeling ...

Yeeeeah. Angel is in and out of character, [AGHGH spoiler SORRY]Wesley has inexplicably regressed to Season 2 A:ts, there's a plot choice for Gunn that I kind of love, Nina is.... *Wallpunch* WTF. WTFingF. ASKJHLKJH.

Gaaaah no, I thought you'd just gone excessively silent! There was a period last year where I was barely managing to keep up with my RL flist, and I must have missed the switchover.

i totally get that ... i haven't exactly been keeping up with anything fannish in a couple of years anyway, just rehashin g all the old faves and whatnot ... somewhere back in the archives of either or both of those ljs there is, naturally, some kind of explanation for the back and forth between them ... if you are bored enough to go look at some point ...
