Uhhhh - (Buffy Season 8 Thought)
Updating my "Where my RP Xander's world took a left turn from canon" post led me to go, "Wait, what?" I'm not sure the thought hadn't niggled at me before, but apparently I let it slide until I actually had reason to poke myself (not dirty) about cause and effect.

Those of y'all who are current with BtVS Season 8 comics (actually, just up to the end of the first arc), riddle me this.

How the hell did the First Evil appear as Warren to Andrew in Season 7, if, according to Amy in the S8 comics, he didn't die when Willow flayed him?

It may have been discussed in fandom already; I haven't really been hunting down meta on the comics. Or there may have been a reference that explains it in the text itself that I missed.

The Faith arc actually is pretty awesome (though I gots my Gilesvoice issues) on the Faith end. It's completely her, and I love her scenes from beginning to end.

On the "Let's us just reiterate how much life sucks for Buffy and how alienated she is forevah and evahhhh" front, though, it made me want to punch walls. "Will's been like a mom to me?" Seriously? Seriously, Dawn? Willow who threatened to unmake you, Willow who you had 'is she still evil' issues with all through season 7, that Willow? (Willow who's making comments about Dawn's breast size, too, because that's likely. I know she has Lesbian Tourettes and can't shut up about them, but a) hers are smaller, and b) ZOMGNO.)

I have to weigh in the "Willow's been like a mom to me."

I floved that line because it was so incredibly obvious to me that wasn't at all true (It's even more obvious in issue 10 that it's a lie) and Dawn says it for one reason. To hurt Buffy. And it totally does. Families are like that - we say the one thing guaranteed to hurt more than a bullet and even when it should be obvious BS to the wounded party, it just isn't. Because Buffy believes that she's been a shitty mom to Dawn.

Okay, I didn't pick up that it was Dawn deliberately trying to hurt her / make her feel guilty. In that context, I buy Dawn saying it. (Though I'm still on the "Please can the Buffy as alienated put-upon victim schtick die a painful offscreen death yesterday" train.)

As a mom, I totally cottoned to it. Because your kids will say the biggest lie in the universe just to be cruel and you will bleed like a stuck pig from it. It's just the way of things.
